150

England's Northwest is one of the UK's top three biomedical clusters, which includes the biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and healthcare industries. This is based on a major global pharmaceutical presence, a rapidly expanding biotechnology community, many healthcare companies and internationally renowned academic and clinical research strengths. England's Northwest has been recognised as a member of the 'European Super League' of biotech clusters by Strategem, and in the top 50 in the world by Boston Consulting.

The region has some 200 biomedical companies including seven multinational pharmaceutical companies, employing 20,000 people and it is the highest exporter of pharmaceuticals in the UK (£3.4 billion).  The Northwest is home to AstraZeneca's largest R&D facility; the UK's largest University (Manchester) with 50% of its research effort dedicated to life science and medicine; Europe's single largest in-market biomanufacturing community and the National Biomanufacturing Centre in Merseyside; UK Biobank, the largest of its kind in the world; the oldest School of Tropical Medicine in the world and Europe's first dedicated campus based bioincubator.

BioNow's aim is to:

  • Provide a fully integrated bio/pharmaceutical company support structure for the region.
  • Ensure the continued growth and development of the biotechnology community based on excellence.
  • Be fully recognised within Europe's top 10 biotechnology locations.
  • Contribute to international biotechnology particularly through the Northwest's major strengths and capabilities including: tissue engineering and regenerative medicine; biohealth informatics; bio/pharmaceutical manufacture; infectious diseases and vaccine development; cancer; neurosciences, clinical genetics; trials infrastructure and molecular and medical imaging.

Every year BioNow holds an Awards Dinner to celebrate the development and achievements of companies in the North-West.  This year, Euprotec Limited have been short-listed for the award of "North-west BioMedical Start Up Company of the Year".

The results of the awards were announced at the Annual Dinner in November, and although not the winner this year, Euprotec are very pleased to have been nominated for this award.
